Ce double album regroupe deux enregistrements majeurs que Philippe Herreweghe a consacrés à la musique de Purcell : avec les Funeral Sentences et autres full et verse anthems (jan 1993), le premier “illumine l’art sacré de Purcell” et “met en lumière sa profonde pensée théologique” (Opéra international) Cinq ans plus tard, le maestro convoquait ses virtuoses du Collegium Vocale de Gand pour dévoiler deux façons très différentes de faire la glorification d’un art dans lequel Purcell était le maître. Que ce soit avec des effectifs restreints (Welcome to all the pleasures) ou à la façon d’un feu d’artifice (Hail! Bright Cecilia), une véritable fête de la musique. Ces titres sont parus pour la première en 1993 (CD 1) et 1998 (CD 2)
